| How I Prepare for Photo Shoots
“My Strong Belief — 90% of a Photo Shoot Should Be Handled by the Photographer. Why?”
• It’s a direct responsibility :)
• It’s a tremendous opportunity to express myself creatively from start to finish.
1.Of course, I’ll start by considering the client’s preferences and offer a variety of ideas and looks (years of curating images have built a solid base).
2.I’ll select the best, most unique locations (I always check the conditions in person beforehand).
3.My favorite part — creating reference drawings. I always go into a photo shoot with a clear plan, so I don’t waste time coming up with ideas on the spot. I used to make collages out of my favorite photos, but that’s limiting and ties me to what’s already been done. Now I listen to music, imagine the shooting location and model, and start drawing the scene as if it’s frames from a movie (my architectural background definitely helps here!).
4.But the most important part, in my opinion, is the psychological aspect.
I always try to learn a bit about the model’s interests and life beforehand because establishing a connection, making them feel comfortable and relaxed — that’s the foundation, and no plan can replace it ;)
And I always repeat to myself, like a mantra: “The person must feel physically comfortable.” Obvious, but so important.
5.Lastly, the technical side (cleaning lenses, memory cards, charging batteries).
Hyper-responsibility, hello! A backup camera gives me maximum control and peace of mind in technical matters.
Photo preludes are important and enjoyable, little birds! Don’t neglect them :)
